Wish to enjoy some traditional Greek hospitality and food whilst in Tasmania? Hamlet Downs Country Accommodation at Fentonbury near Mt Field National Park is owned by Peter and Sue Ontatzis. Peter's parents come from Lemnos, a beautiful Greek island in the north Aegean Sea. Peter learned the art of cooking Greek cuisine from his mother. With over 70 years experience, she has that knack of cooking extraordinary Greek dishes without effort. This heritage has been passed onto Peter who will cook up a storm for guests staying at Hamlet Downs. Peter can provide a traditional Greek feast with either 2 or 3 courses. Dishes range from a selection of entrees eg kefthedes (seasoned meatballs) with tzatziki (yoghurt dip), fetta and fried haloumi cheeses, Greek salad or dolmades. Dishes vary according to season and availability of ingredients. For instance fresh dolmades may be made with our own grape leaves and mint. Popular main meals include slow baked leg of lamb or mousaka (baked layered meat, potatoes and béchamel sauce). If you desire, try souvlakia (skewered lamb) on the bbq! Finally some options for dessert include baklava or galaktoboureko (custard pie with orange syrup). This is just a sample of the dishes that may be produced. Ask Peter for other options.
